UGANDAN CONE DRUM

SH4801200ugandaconedrum.JPG (58644 bytes)The best-known cone drums in Africa are made in Uganda.  This one has great tone & is a beautiful piece as well.  There is a large one approximately 20" high and 18" across, and a smaller one 12" high and 10" across.  Color will vary from light to dark brown.  Something will rattle inside this drum, because the tradition is that a small piece of the animal  out of which the drum was made (e.g., a piece of hoof) is put inside, making the spirit of that animal live on in the drum.

TAM TAM (TALKING) DRUM

SH1800040tamtamdrum.JPG (59168 bytes)This is the famous "talking drum," from Burkina Faso, West Africa.  The drum is held under the arm, pressure on the cords adjusting the pitch while the drum is beaten with the curved stick.  A complete language exists with which messages are sent.  There is a beautiful figurine of a tam tam player at the bottom of this page.

Unfortunately, the talking drums we have been able to obtain recently are not up to our idea of satisfactory standards.  Until higher quality Tam Tams become available to us, we will not sell them.

Price: $54.95  Model #SH1800041
