LEWIS N. CLARK TELEPHONE ADAPTERS
GLOBAL CONNECTIONS is pleased
to offer the fine quality telephone adapters made by Lewis N. ClarkTM to fit
telephone outlets throughout the world. (Like electrical outlets, the
shape of telephone outlets differs in many countries.)
You will need an appropriate adapter if you plan to use a modem when you travel
in these countries.
Lewis N. Clark advises, "There are several other
issues to keep in mind when using your laptop and modem overseas:
 | Digital Telephone Systems. Modems operate
on analog or sound signals. However, many new telephone systems use
digital signals. Unfortunately, these systems are not able to process
the analog signals, and can not be used with a modem. Using a modem
with a digital telephone system could cause permanent damage to both the
modem and the telephone system. |
 | Telephone outlet. Or lack of one, that
is. In some instances, the telephone wire is connected inside the
wall, and can not be unplugged. |
 | Line Noise. Often occurring in less
modernized countries, this causes interference with the modem's ability to
connect. Nonetheless, there are some options available to you that
might help. First, try to connect at a lower modem speed.
Second, you might also try a line filter to reduce the noise. Finally,
if your modem does not recognize the dial tone, you may need to adjust its
communication program. These instructions should be covered in the
modem's instruction manual. |
 | Electricity. A laptop computer is an
electronic device, & typically dual-voltage, in which case a simple
adapter plug can be used to plug into a foreign electrical outlet.
These computers usually do not have a physical switch to change from one
voltage (i.e., 110V) to another (i.e., 220V). Rather, they
"automatically" adjust to the appropriate voltage level &
would have information imprinted on the charger unit such as
"120/240V" & "50/60Hz". In rare instances, a
laptop may operate only on one voltage (i.e., 110V) & because it is an
electronic device, should be used ONLY
with a TRANSFORMER
of the appropriate wattage level. Please note
that accessory equipment may also require the use of transformers &
adapters. If you are in doubt as to what you might need, it is best to
contact your computer's manufacturer for specific technical specifications
& requirements. It is also wise to consult with your hotel
regarding the electrical specifications in your room prior to using any
equipment. |
